How much do jeans/denim skirts shrink in the dryer?

I have a denim skirt and jeans that are both about a size too big for me and I am thinking of putting them in the dryer...will it make them shrink too much? I put PJ pants in the dryer once and they turned into capris.. :S So I am a little nervous about it...any suggestions?
